

He is an older policeman who is tired and in an unhappy marriage. However, the book is probably about half about Bill's personal life. I liked Bill Slider's partner Atherton the most of all the characters. I liked the police procedural part of the book and if it had been mainly that would have given it four stars. It is a police procedural based in England.
